What a day for good news!

Doogie went into surgery on Monday morning to correct his soft palate, nose, and larynx.  He was having difficulties breathing when he got excited, and we needed to have this surgery done before the weather gets warm.  It is a pretty invasive procedure and there was a possibility of him having a tracheotomy and going to the ICU.  But luckily, God was smiling down on my little doggie that day and his surgery had zero complications.  I was able to take him home today.  He is all drugged up but very happy to be home. The docs said his only problem was that he wanted attention non-stop.  He's a very needy little dog.  So he is home, on soft food, meds, and restricted exercise for two weeks.

The other good news is that my best friend, Lisa, is engaged!!!  I'm going to be a maid of honor for the first time ever!! I'm so excited and can't wait to start planning it with her.  Lucky for me, she is looking at a May/June 2010 wedding... so I will have just graduated and I don't have to worry about stupid school complicating dates!

Well, I need to go study for a quiz I may have tomorrow.  PA is expecting the "storm of the season" and I have already received an email from the professor that we may cancel class.  By the way, we are expected to get 3 inches of snow.  The east coast just isn't the same as the midwest, is it?!?

Turkey Farm & Superbowl!

Hi Everyone! It's been a busy few weeks! School is going great, and our Pittsburgh Steelers are on their way to Superbowl XLIII!!!

Here is another of our beautiful Vinnie... doesn't she look adorable in her little hat and camo jacket?!?!

We visited a turkey farm this week in school - here is me with a little baby turkey! SO cute, but very hard to catch...

Here we are with the big turkeys!!

After the Steeler win over the Ravens - the one that puts us in the superbowl!! I was actually sick all night - we think I ate something that just didn't agree with my stomach. I was freezing cold, too (hence why you can't see my jersey)... but I was trying to muster up some excitement

Mule Fun

So my first week at the large animal campus has been great!! I have gotten to palpate cows and mares for pregnancy, place urinary catheters in two horses, do eye exams on horses and goats, do ultrasound pregnancy checks on pigs, and do necropsies on chickens and watched one on a horse.  Busy week! There is some lecture time mixed in there, but at least it's not 8 hours a day staring at powerpoint presentations! To top it all off, Kenny brought Vinnie to work with him so that I could watch her all day - what a doll, I just love spending time with her! Mom has those pictures, I'm sure it won't be long until they are posted!

Next week will be nice, too, because I only have class on Thursday from 8-10, then I have Friday off and Monday off for MLK.  Nearly a five-day weekend!!  I might go into the city on Monday to help with a vaccination clinic for people who can't afford care, but that depends on if the Steelers win today and therefore play in the AFC Championship game next Sunday.  Does that make me a bad person?!?!

Speaking of football.. last week we had a really good time! It was the second Browns vs. Steelers game of the year, which is always a big deal since Greg is a Browns fan. Even though the Browns got a beating, he is such a good sport and still all smiles (as you can see below).  Afterwards, all of us plus Molly came back to my parents new house and did "hot laps" - laps around my parent's 30 acres on their mule.  It was chilly, so we all bundled up and had a really good time. Maybe too much of a good time!

Greg being adorable!

Here is the camo family!

Kenny being a goofball after we did mule slides (it was muddy). I told you we had too much fun!

More Photos

So, I was cleaning out my desk and found a thumb drive with pictures from Molly. I thought I'd upload some more!

This was my first neuter - notice the dog - that's Doogie! Man, that was a scary day. Greg really protested having his "manhood" taken away, but Doogie had started marking his territory - which included our pillows, blankets, and moving boxes. So after the fourth pillow I threw out, I said enough is enough! He has totally stopped marking, and we even saved his boy parts in a glass jar for Greg as a keepsake. I guess we vet students are a different breed!!

This is our surgery group! Molly, Annie, and me... we had a lot of fun and really trusted each other ... I couldn't have asked for a better group to go through our scary 1st surgeries!

Here's one of the whole fam.... plus Molly!

I know this is way old now but I thought they were so darn cute I couldn't help myself... Every year there is a dog halloween contest. So Doogie was a pig, Jaz was a rooster, the Dalmation was a cow, and the Lab was the farmer.  They were all so cute! (we didn't win, though, a group of stinkin ferrets beat us in the "group" category!)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Now, I realize that I don't have children to post pictures of, but none-the-less, I felt left out of the blog loop, and thought there might be some people out there who may enjoy hearing a little bit of my life!

My hope is that this will be a nice hobby for me, since I will hopefully have some more spare time! As some of you may already know, I have completed 2.5 years of my 4 year program for veterinary school - I have completed all of our "core" classes - yay!  So on Monday, I start "Large Animal Block" - which means that I will spend all of January - March out at Penn's Large Animal Campus doing lots of hands on stuff.  So the next few months will be a welcome break from the monotony of sitting in a classroom for eight hours a day and then coming home and studying until I fall asleep at my desk!

Greg and I recently moved outside the city - we're so much happier to be out of the bad part of West Philly! My commute is a little longer now, but it's definitely worth it.  We were on the 7th floor, now we're on the 1st - we have a little patio, and we can let the dogs right out to go outside and play on the grass.  Doogie (the puppy) has made a ton of friends that he likes to run around with outside.  The cat (Chevy) also LOVES to be able to watch the birds and squirells outside the windows.  Greg and I also gained a lot more living space, too!

I thought I would post some pictures to catch everyone up...

This is one of me and my beautiful niece, Vinnie Darlin!
Here are my two "kids", Jaz (left) and Doogie (right). They were very festive this year!

This one is me and my boyfriend, Greg, at my "White Coat" ceremony - we got our first doctor coats! They are not as long as the actual doctors - this is so people can distinguish the little peon students from the real deal in the hospital! None-the-less, they are super official with our names on them and everything! 1.5 more years...

Here is another of our little Darlin!!

Here are some from my first surgeries - the other girl in the picture is my close friend, Molly - she's also a huge steeler fan, so I'm sure more pictures of her will pop up! The last two pictures are from our large animal campus - it's so much fun to actually get to DO stuff!!

That's it for now, hope you guys enjoy my pictures and stories!
